China set to invest $1bn to establish animal processing enterprise in Andijan, Uzbekistan

China is set to invest $1bn to establish an animal processing enterprise in the far eastern region of Andijan in Uzbekistan, UzDaily has reported.

The investment decision came following a visit paid by a Uzbek delegation, led by the khokim (mayor) of Andijan region, to China. 

During their visit, the delegation familiarised themselves with the operations of Kaifeng Shengmeishun Leather Products company in Kaifeng City, Henan province.

The processing plant will focus on animal hides and also organs.

According to cited sources close to the negotiations, the Uzbek delegation engaged in fruitful discussions with both public and private sector representatives in China. 

Key figures present included the chairman of Uzbekistan's veterinary committee.

The talks also looked at the potential for forging partnerships with leading Chinese institutions specialising in veterinary medicine, cattle breeding, poultry farming and fishing. 

The parties also explored avenues for collaboration in scientific research and the training of Uzbek specialists in various fields.

The animal processing project is expected to generate approximately 3,000 jobs locally.
