Unemployment in Czechia slightly increased to 3.8% in July. This is up by 3.6% in June and also by 0.3 percentage points more year on year.

“The July increase in unemployment is a result of several factors, mainly economic pressures and seasonal influence,” commented Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Marian Jurecka.

County’s market analysts pointed to the annually recurring development of companies hiring less during summer holidays as well as to the dampened industrial output and weak foreign demand in an export-oriented Czech economy.

Overall, there were 283,011 persons registered with the Labour Office at the end of July. The lowest unemployment was in the capital Prague and Vysocina region which both registered 2.9% unemployment.

There were 131,072 Ukrainians working in Czechia under the contemporary protection scheme designed in 2022 to shelter Ukrainians fleeing the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Some 62% of these are women, and another 15,367 were registered with the Labour Office at the end of July.
