The Slovakian Ministry of Economy has announced a subsidy scheme to promote the purchase of electric vehicles and increase their number on Slovakian roads next year. The first applications will be accepted on December 17 and a total of €5mn has been earmarked for the scheme, the ministry said on November 18.

A maximum subsidy of €8,000 is available for the purchase of a new purely electric vehicle, or €5,000 for a plug-in hybrid vehicle. Individuals, entrepreneurs and public administration bodies can apply for a subsidy. The maximum purchase price of a vehicle eligible for a subsidy is €50,000 including VAT.

“With this call, the ministry continues its successful pilot project to support the purchase of electric vehicles, which it launched at the end of November 2016 in cooperation with the Automotive Industry Association of the Slovak Republic,” said the Minister of Economy Peter Ziga, adding that thanks to this support, sales of electric vehicles have increased dramatically year-on-year.

In addition, the ministry will evaluate the first round of support for regional governments for the construction of charging stations network in the near future.
