Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian issued a condolence message on October 27 following the deaths of four army personnel from Israeli airstrikes and ten police officers and conscripts killed at Goharkooh police station in Taftan in Iran’s Sistan-Baluchistan region.

"Iran's sons sacrificed their lives defending the homeland," Pezeshkian wrote in his message. "I extend my condolences to the brave army personnel, dedicated police forces, their esteemed families, and our heroic people."

"Iran's enemies should know that these valiant people stand fearlessly in defence of their soil and will respond to any foolish action with wisdom and prudence," the president added.

The secondary attack occurred as the patrol units were returning to their station following emergency calls from the public in the primarily deprived Sunni Muslim region, according to a police statement. Iranian media has been slow to report the attack on the often overlooked region following focus on the aftermath of the Israeli airstrikes on the country.

The Jaish ul-Adl group designated as a terror group by Tehran later claimed responsibility for the attack on border guards in Goharkouh police station.

The Minister of Interior promptly formed a committee to investigate the incident and instructed them to conduct an on-site examination and report their findings as soon as possible.

The spokesperson for Iran’s Law Enforcement Command later reported the arrest of a key Jaish ul-Adl member who was actively involved and present at the scene of the terrorist attack.

General Saeed Montazer ol-Mahdi explained that other attackers were forced to abandon their vehicle and other equipment and flee the scene, but efforts to identify and arrest them were underway.

Jaish ul-Adl, a Sunni separatist militant organisation which was formed in 2012, is designated a terrorist organisation by Iran. The country has repeatedly claimed that Iran's enemies, including Israel, fund the group.

The group operates mainly in south-eastern Iran, which has long borders with Pakistan and has carried out multiple attacks against military personnel in Iran.

Earlier in April at least three military bases in Iran’s south-eastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan came under insurgent attacks on security forces, with at least 11 security forces reported killed.

Jaish ul-Adl also claimed responsibility for the operations which led to the death of at least 15 of their members.

Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, performed prayers over the coffins of the seven murdered Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) in Tehran late on April 4.
